BOXX Technologies introduces the GoBOXX SLM-17, a slim notebook workstation compliant with the new NVIDIA RTX Studio Laptop specification. RTX technology is the first GPU (graphics processing unit) platform that supports real-time ray tracing and advanced artificial intelligence (AI) development capabilities.

Weighing less than 5 lbs. and just 0.69-in. thick, the GoBOXX SLM-17 comes standard with an Intel Core i9 processor (i9-9880H) and the NVIDIA Quadro RTX 4000 GPU, the mobile implementation of NVIDIA’s RTX technology.

BOXX says the GoBOXX SLM-17 is ideal for complex graphics applications including CAD and CAE visualizations. All RTX Studio laptops include NVIDIA Studio Drivers, for the fastest possible support of technical graphics applications. The RTX specification is reportedly the first-ever ray tracing GPU, according to BOXX. BOXX says it transforms the time-consuming process of creating realistic visualizations.

The RTX specification is part of the Turing generation of NVIDIA’s GPU technology. RTX offers two new technology cores. RT Cores turn ray tracing into a real-time experience. Tensor Cores specialize in matrix math, common to deep learning, machine learning, AI and other applications that now run only on high-performance computing clusters. Tensor Cores perform a fused multiply add, where two 4x4 FP16 matrices are multiplied, and the result added to a 4x4 FP16 or FP32 matrix. Tensor Cores do millions of these calculations every second, much faster than commodity CPU or GPU compute circuitry. NVIDIA says the theoretical performance boost of using Tensor Cores for AI development can be as high 8x compared to the previous generation of GPU technology. Currently, data science models take several days to run; a 4x speed boost would complete a four-day job in one day.

The dimensions of this new slim notebook are 15.63x0.69x10.13 in. (WxHxD). Other specifications of the GoBOXX SLM-17 include:

  • 32GB DDR4-2666 MHz RAM
