In this episode of DE Leadership Profile, a sponsored podcast series, ESTECO's President Carlo Poloni discusses the changing purpose of simulation.
“Simulation is no longer a method for verifying what what went wrong, but it's becoming something to predict performance, and therefore to make decisions before building the components,” he noted. This shift also affected ESTECO's product strategy.
“Our product moved from being a desktop solution to something integrated with the company's infrastructure, which means it's no longer a tool just for the desktop of a single engineer but it's part of a process. It has to be available to multiple people who are collaborating, so we moved from modeFRONTIER to the VOLTA platform,” he said.
VOLTA is described by ESTECO as an “Enterprise platform for Simulation Process and Data Management (SPDM) and design optimization.”
On the vendors' ongoing initiatives to democratize simulation, Poloni offered his perspectives. “If it's just a simplified version of a software, sure, it's fine. It can be used as a preliminary tool. But if you mean by democratizing simulation, to make the most sophisticated simulation available to the other parties, then it's a goal worth reaching for,” he said.
