Hexagon’s Manufacturing Intelligence division announces the North American debut of REcreate, a new reverse engineering software solution at RAPID + TCT 2021, Sept. 13-16, 2021, McCormick Place, Chicago, IL. RAPID attendees will get the first look at REcreate and its approach to creating 3D models in a design and production environment tailor-made to create new product designs and repair or replace parts. In Booth E8110, visitors will be able to view REcreate working in a real-world scenario in tandem with an Absolute Arm and AS1 scanning system to capture 3D part data.
The solution can also import mesh, solid, surface or point cloud data, giving the user more design flexibility to start at any entry point in the reverse engineering process. Hexagon reverse engineering experts will be on hand to demonstrate and answer questions about features and individual design challenges, the company says.
On Monday, September 13 at 10 a.m. in AM Classroom B, Hexagon subject matter expert Giles Gaskell will deliver a presentation entitled “Empowering Quality Control and Inspection at Every Level with 3D Scanning.”
On Wednesday, September 15 at 1:30 p.m. on the Main Stage, Gaskell will also serve as the host, moderator and participant in the RAPID Thought Leadership Panel forum entitled “3D Scanning―Why Do It and How.” The panel is made up of 3D Scanning veterans with expertise in using scanners for reverse engineering and inspection.
“With decades of expertise in 3D scanning and data capture, our goal was to build a new reverse engineering software application focused on ease of use to handle dense point clouds from scanning devices, along with the ability to verify and design models in a single, robust CAD environment,” states Ken Woodbine, senior portfolio manager—Metrology Software. “Interoperability was also at the top of our list. REcreate works with a wide range of third-party systems and data capture devices. The software program can be used as an end-to-end reverse engineering solution, or as a complement to existing technology.”
REcreate was built to remove the complexity involved in building airtight models for additive or subtractive manufacturing. Original equipment manufacturers and design engineers can reconstruct legacy parts, and develop new products from existing parts or hand-built prototypes. REcreate is a tool for ensuring a precision fit in a design envelope for new or aftermarket components. In essence, the software can import scan data to create CAD models for parts that had no affiliated CAD model. REcreate users can also easily update CAD models to reflect changes that occurred in the manufacturing or prototyping process.
