Coreform Wins Grant to Develop Analysis for Nuclear Energy

Coreform LLC, developer of computer-aided engineering software, has won a $1.1 million grant from the Department of Energy to develop isogeometric analysis technology for the MOOSE framework.

Coreform announces its receipt of a grant from the Department of Energy. The grant will fund the development of isogeometric analysis for use with the Multiphysics Object-Oriented Simulation Environment (MOOSE). Isogeometric analysis used in combination with MOOSE can accelerate engineering processes for safe nuclear energy designs by removing thesteps of defeaturing and meshing required for simulations.

“Coreform has devoted significant resources to advancing nuclear energy simulation technology over the past few years,” says CEO Dr. Michael A. Scott. 

The DOE’s Nuclear Energy Advanced Modeling and Simulation program developed MOOSE as an open-source framework for simulation, which is used by researchers to drive safe nuclear energy designs. Coreform’s isogeometric analysis technology will improve the accessibility of the MOOSE suite by improving the product testing and development workflow. Specifically, this project will allow engineers to use a computer-aided design model directly in simulation.

“MOOSE users already know Coreform through our Coreform Cubit meshing tool,” notes Matt Sederberg, Coreform’s chief strategy officer. “We are looking forward to offering CAD-centric workflows to the MOOSE community as well.” 

The work funded by this grant will increase the accessibility, and usability of government-funded nuclear simulation codes and promote the development of safe, clean, nuclear energy.
