CAD files are the primary source of intellectual property for manufacturing companies in industries like automotive, aviation, engineering, and high tech. There is a risk of losing this IP due to the lack of technical enforcement to protect these files whenever engineers work with or share them with suppliers.

Inside product lifecycle management systems, CAD files are protected by PLM security policies. When shared with external parties, these files required the same PLM security profile for protecting the data in uncontrolled IT environments.

Digital rights management (DRM) is the only data-centric security approach based on a Zero Trust strategy that protects data everywhere. The main challenge for an efficient collaboration process is to automatically map the PLM security to the access and usage controls of the corresponding DRM protection template.

HALOCAD solves this challenge for CAD and PLM environments by automating Microsoft Purview Information Protection, the unified platform for a company-wide DRM and part of M365 E5 Compliance.

HALOCAD provides value by:

  • Automatically applying MIP protection labels to CAD files during check out from the Product Lifecycle Management (PLM) system vault
  • Support of multi-CAD environment and
  • Support of complex assembly use cases
  • Enabling CAD applications to open MIP-protected files and enforcing permissions inside of the applications.
  • Automatically decrypting CAD files at PLM check-in(CAD files in PLM are not encrypted)
  • Strengthens PLM multi-CAD integration with data protection using AIP
  • Supports encryption for CAD translator file types (IGES, STEP, etc.) and facilitates interoperability across CAD platforms
  • Providing a free HALOCAD® Reader plug-in for easily granting read-only permissions to collaboration partners.

“The manufacturing industry is specifically targeted for its intellectual property, theft of trade secrets, technology and business processes. Therefore, these industries need to up their ante to address challenges such as data privacy and security to safeguard information as well as meet regulatory compliance. Building on the security and scalability of Azure, SECUDE’s HALOCAD will provide a secure, seamless digital experience for our customers,” says Holger Huegel, VP Technology, Secude.

“We’re pleased to welcome SECUDE to the Microsoft Azure Marketplace, which gives our partners great exposure to cloud customers around the globe,” says Jake Zborowski, general manager, Microsoft Azure Platform at Microsoft.

The Azure Marketplace is an online market for buying and selling cloud solutions certified to run on Azure. The Azure Marketplace helps connect companies seeking cloud-based solutions with partners who have developed solutions that are ready to use.
